REFLECTION – LESSON PLANS
Pre-school/Pre-k
Pre-school/Pre-k
While creating all of these Lesson Plans, I felt they were age-appropriate for the group I am
currently working with 3, 4 and 5 year olds. I feel that these plans will also be engaging for
the children and provide meaningful and challenging activities. The High Scope Active
Learning approach was included to promote developmental growth and learning. Using the
Active Learning approach will give the opportunity for children to explore materials with
choices of how they want to use them and talk about what they will do and learn.
In the lessons, Adult Scaffolding is also used to support children where they are at
developmentally (Early, Middle, Later) and uses extensions to pose challenges, if they are ready.
This part of the lesson planning was challenging for me, but got better as I practiced writing
the lessons according to the children’s individual developmental abilities.
The High Scope Curriculum and content knowledge of all the KDI’s are used in the
plans to provide many different ways and levels for children to learn. Follow-up Ideas are
also incorporated into the plans so children can explore, practice, revisit, and learn from their
experiences and construct their own knowledge.
I feel the lesson plans also provide learning outside of the classroom, like the “Kick the Ball”
activity and encourages children to build relationships with not only adults, but with other
children. I feel that the lesson plans will meet the objectives and children will gain different
ways of learning. Although some of the materials will be used in unique ways by the children
and not as planned, children will explore, choose, and construct their own knowledge as they
create experiences from the lessons and individualized learning! (see Lesson Plans menu).
